To Your Good Health

Jesus said, “…I have come that you may have life and have it more abundantly.”
(John 10:10) Jesus sent his disciples out “to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.”
(Luke 9:2)

The Presbyterian Church (USA) believes God desires healing and wholeness in our lives and that we, as disciples of Christ, are called to promote and extend healing care.

Following the teachings of Jesus, the First Presbyterian Health Ministry Team, working under the direction of the Board of Deacons, is excited to be able to offer to the congregation opportunities to promote, learn and experience good health care options.

Over the next year the following opportunities will be offered:

Blood pressure screenings on the first Sunday of each month between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m.

A general public health screening will be offered to congregation members this fall.

Here is a link to the DHHS website www.healthfinder.gov which allows extensive review of current health topics, screenings, tests, programs. To use the site click on the link, then go to the upper left hand corner of the second page and click Quick Guide to Healthy Living. This action will highlight key health topics of interest including cancer screenings, diabetes, heart health, good nutrition, healthy lifestyles, etc.

Our church has purchased an Automated External Defibrillator. It is a commonly used strategic life support system for anyone who might suffer cardiac distress.  Church staff, certain of the Ambassadors, and Ushers attended a program in the fellowship center on June 20 presented by a practicing Columbia cardiologist.  The program highlighted use of the AED, reinforced the need for such backup in large organizations, and offered visuals on use of the unit.
The unit is placed in a small cabinet in the NW corner of the welcome center for central access if/when needed.  We have confirmed that the Missouri Good Samaritan law covers members of the congregation who might be called upon to use the device in an attempt to save a life. Our Prayer

Christ has no body now on earth but yours,
no hands but yours, no feet but yours.
Yours are the eyes through which the compassion
of Christ is to look out on a hurting world.
Yours are the feet with which he is to go about doing good.
Yours are the hands with which he is to bless now.
The Prayer of St. Teresa of Avila

We hope that you will take advantage of these opportunities and join with us in promoting health, wholeness and abundant life. We would welcome your suggestions and comments.
