For College Students - Campus Ministries
The Vine Campus Ministries exists to:
- Create a place of BELONGING for all college students. (Gal. 3:26-29)
- Challenge, guide, and nurture college students in a FAITH in Christ. (Eph. 3:14-19)
- WORSHIP, both in our gathering and with our lives. (Psalm 96)
- Represent our generation for Christ within our CHURCH FAMILY. (1 Cor. 14:26-27)
- Spread the love and message of JESUS to our schools and our communities. (Matthew 28:19)
Verse and Devotional of the Month
After coming across a passage from this week’s Lectionary readings, I am left reflecting on why we do what we do in the church. Take a moment and read Matthew 6: 1-6. Reading these words of Jesus leaves me wondering if the church takes them seriously. It makes me think about The Vine, who is currently involved in a program to help those in our community in need via a backpack ministry. Think about times in the past when you have given to the needy, either by your own choice, or with a church community. What were your motives? Did you want to share Christ’s love, or did you need an ego boost? When things were all said and done, did you let yourself bask in the glow of all the “You are so good to help them” and “How wonderful to have a church as good as ours” comments? Or, were you left with an even larger desire to meet the many needs still un-met in your community, and thankfulness to God for your abundant blessings? As you go and do the good work of the church, let me remind you to revisit this passage in Matthew before, as, and after you do that work. Perhaps it IS possible to extend nothing more than the love and compassion of Jesus to those in need as we reach out…and leave our self-congratulatory sense of piety behind.
