On Thursday, June 18, the Session of First Presbyterian Church voted to postpone the restart of on-site worship until Sunday, August 30. Online worship will continue on Sundays at 10:00 AM. The Session believes that the recent trend in COVID-19 cases warrants a delay in resuming services. In the meantime, the Worship Team and the Pastor will collaborate on a plan for celebrating the Sacrament of Holy Communion online that is in keeping with our denomination's theology of the Lord's Supper.
This was a difficult decision to make, because it comes out of living in difficult times. Please know that a good Spirit permeated the lengthy discussion the Session engaged in before taking this vote. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
Also, remember the first thing we did when we entered into this struggle: think of five people who don't need to face the pandemic alone. Reach out to them today, and check on them. That's how we will get through this--by relying on the Holy Spirit, and looking out for each other.
